Virginia Williams Obituary

Virginia Blanche Williams, 87, of Clairton, PA, was born January 9, 1935, in McKeesport, PA. Beloved daughter of the late Archie and Blanche Williams and last sibling of this union. Preceding her in death were: Alexander Williams, Annie McClean, Willie H. Williams, Dorothy Taulton, and Alma E. Williams.

Virginia graduated from Clairton High School in 1955. After graduation, she continued her education at Central State University, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education. After college, she applied for a teaching position at McKeesport High School. She was hired as one of the first African American Home Economics teacher. To further her education, Virginia enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh where she received her master’s degree. She later became a counselor at McKeesport High School, where she retired.

Virginia, more affectionately known as “Honey”, was a lifelong devoted and faithful member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church. She loved her church and was always willing to help wherever she was needed. Virginia was a sweet spirit who loved helping others in need. Unassuming, quiet and kind, she had a genuine sense of humor to those who knew her. Virginia was also a gifted singer. She was a dedicated member of the Senior Choir by which we were blessed to hear her melodious voice in solo. She loved the Lord and       Word and was a faithful member of the Sunday School. She also taught Sunday School and served as assistant superintendent under Deacon Henry Johnson. Exercising her natural teaching abilities and love for the youth, she assisted in coordinating Easter programs, Christmas programs, and Vacation Bible School. Recognizing her quiet, humble work and dedication Pastor William C. Callaway bestowed upon her the title honorary deaconess.

Sister Virginia Williams utilized the gifts God gave her for His glory.  May we all follow her example. Ecclesiastes 9:10 (a) reads “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might. Her legacy is a shining example of faithfulness.

Virginia’s beautiful life will be cherished by her beloved daughter, Minister Lillian Tucker of Clairton, PA.; a host of loving, attentive and devoted nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly; special sister-in-law, Georgette Williams of Clairton, PA; goddaughters, Jermel Wardlaw and Lisa McGruder, extended family, and many friends.
