The passing of Violet Schnel Simmons
She was a pioneer and glass ceiling breakers being the first African American Silver buyer for Joseph Horne Co of Pittsburgh, International Silver of New England, Owner of Executive Telephone Service in McKeesport Executive Building, Owner of Hotel Clairton in Clairton Pa, Featured in Talk Magazine as one of Pittsburgh's most successful African American Leaders, Numerous community health awareness program awards for over the last 50 years. Memberships include National Council of Negro Women, NAACP Lifetime Member and Former President of the McKeesport branch.
She made her mark in the community by her brilliant vivacious smile, generosity, kindness, knowledge, and wisdom that she shared with everyone. She would encourage you to keep moving towards your goals or to create a goal to go after. She will be missed by a host of family, friends, and colleagues.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories 2 daughters Mysty Durham of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Darlene Durham of Dallas, Texas, and was married to the late Alfred J Simmons for over 32 years. Daughter of surviving mother Annie Elizabeth (Fleming) Hill, Sister Eunice Wllia Dean Powell, both of Cleveland, Ohio and Sister the late Cora Jean Newsome of Detroit and her Father the late Eddie Howard Young. She also leaves behind to cherish her memories, Granddaughters: Nadiyah Dorsey Quander of NC, Audra Wilson of FL, Asha Wilson of VA, and Great Granddaughters Ailanni & Sage Quander of NC. A host of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
