Shirley Ann Holmes Jarrett, 83 years young, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on January 11, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 27, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, Shirley was the eldest of four children to James Webster Sr. and Mary Holmes Webster Roberts.


Affectionately known as “Gram” by her cherished grandchildren, Shirley’s life was a radiant testament to unconditional love, resilience, and an unwavering positive spirit.


Shirley grew up in Rankin, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Rankin High School in 1958. Her musical talent blossomed at a young age, and her beautiful, melodious voice became her hallmark. Over the years, she was a member of several singing groups and eventually gained recognition as "Shirley of the Splendors." Her voice brought joy to all who heard it, and her passion for music left an indelible mark on those around her.


Shirley married the love of her life, Allen Jarrett, and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. Their union was blessed with two children, Jason and Kim, who were the joys of her life.


A woman of boundless energy and many talents, Shirley loved dancing, singing, and playing cards. She especially enjoyed playing Bid Whist with friends and family, creating memories full of joy and camaraderie. After moving to Clairton, Shirley became a pillar of her community. She was a dedicated member of the Clairton Midget Football Association, serving in various roles, including cheerleading coach and president. She also contributed her time and energy as a member of the Clairton High School Athletic Booster, always striving to uplift her community.


Shirley had a long and successful career at United States Steel – Irvin Works, where she retired after nearly 30 years of service. Her commitment, strength, and work ethic were admired by all who knew her.


Shirley’s legacy of love and strength continues through her children, Jason Jarrett (Emilinda) and Kim Jarrett; her stepchildren, Niki Jarrett (Bill Scurry), Owen Leonard (Linda), Sheela Jarrett Jones (Leonard), Marci Sparrow (Mike), and her bonus daughter, Karen Wilson; her beloved sister, Beverly Anderson (Ron); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, James Webster Sr. and Mary Holmes Webster Roberts; her beloved husband, Allen; her stepdaughter, Jade Jarrett Ahmad; her grandson, Jalen Leonard; and her brothers, James Webster Jr. and Phillip Webster.


Shirley’s life was a celebration of joy, compassion, and unwavering support. She embraced every moment with grace and love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and positivity. Her light touched everyone she met, and to know her was to love her.


Though she is no longer with us, Shirley’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
