Samuel Linn Burgwin, 75, of Elizabeth, was born February 12, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the beloved son of Handy Wall and Mildred Burgwin Doggett, and stepfather Russell Doggett.
Samuel attended school at Hays Elementary School and graduated from Homestead High School. Samuel furthered his education at CCAC where he received an associate degree and played college basketball. He was well known as “Cricket”. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1969 and traveled overseas. After returning home for some time, he met the love of his life Patricia. They married and raised two sons together. Samuel was employed for 40 years with the Edgar Thomson Steel Works located in North Braddock, PA. Samuel always had a smile on his face and never without a toothpick on the side of his mouth.
Young Sammy likes to joke around with his 2 cousins Peach and Loretta. They asked him for a pie pan so they could make a pie, and he knew just where to find one. They made the pie. When the pie was done baking they asked Sammy do you want some pie? He said “NO,” they said, why not? Sammy said that was the “CAT’s pie pan…... Sammy started cracking up at his cousins! That was one of his pranks. He had pride in his cars he made sure they were always clean inside and out! He was a member of Mt. Rise Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Samuel departed this life on August 21, 2023, at. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia R. Burgwin, son, Jermaine Oden, father, Handy Wall, stepfather, Russell Doggett, mother, Mildred C. Doggett, brother, Edward Burgwin, sister, Mildred Burgwin.
Samuel is survived by his loving family; son, Berry Oden; sister, Mabel Jones; five, grandchildren, Chyna Oden, Cash`che Oden, Cierra Oden, Aionna Mack, and Rhianna Oden, one, great-grandchild, Isarayah Leverett; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
