Roy Lee Hamlin, Jr., 84, Affectionately known as “Peanut” of Clairton, PA., was born March 28, 1940, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of Roy Lee Hamlin, Sr., and Lucretia Clifford Brooks. Grandparents, Maude and Ward Clifford. Roy was the oldest child of 13 siblings.

Roy attended school in the Clairton city school district and graduated in 1958, he was an excellent football player all through high school. He also excelled in academics receiving honors.

After graduation Roy enlisted in the United States Army for four years he traveled to Hawaii during his time. After he separated from the service he relocated to New York City.

Roy had various jobs, to name a few he worked for the city of New York Postal Service and Transit System. He then came back to Pittsburgh and worked at Continental Can Plant, National Tubes, Fisher Body, Clairton Liquor Store, and Board of Elections working on the Polls.

He enjoys watching and attending all sports. He was a member of the American Legion Post 817. Roy was a former member of the First A.M.E. Methodist Church in Clairton, PA.

Roy departed this life on August 21, 2024, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son, Terrance Hamlin, sisters, Crystal Brooks, and Marlene Hamlin, and brother, Ward Brooks.  

Roy is survived by his life partner, Theresa ”Tiny” Dreher; three sons, Derrick Hamlin, Vada Epps, and Carvon Hamlin; stepson, Nemo Dreher; stepdaughter, Jeannie Dreher; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, Joanne  Blackwell, Jacqueline Watkins, Linda (Anthony) Hudson; seven brothers, Derick (Katey) Brooks, Valroy Hamlin, Leonard Hamlin, Ralph (Patricia) Hamlin, Jesse (Patricia) Brooks, Craig (Victoria) Brooks, Kenneth Hamlin; cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
