Robert Joseph Abbott Jr., 71, of Finleyville, was born June 8, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the beloved son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Abbott (née Gorman). 

After attending primary and secondary school in Pittsburgh, Robert finished his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry at Edinboro University. He went on to receive a PhD in Molecular Biological Studies at Ohio State University in 1983. He spent the majority of his career as a research scientist in chemistry. 

In his free time, Robert was an avid gardener and loved looking through seed catalogues and vegetable gardening magazines. He also had a passion for carpentry, building many additions to his home in Maineville, Ohio, before returning to the Pittsburgh area. 

Robert departed this life on February 3, 2025, at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Abbott, Sr., and his mother, Elizabeth Agnes Abbott.   

Robert is survived by his beloved children: son Ian Abbott (Autumn Leto) of Chicago, IL, and daughter Lura Landoll (Darren) of Maineville, OH; beloved grandchildren Alaina, Allison, and Juliet; and extended family and friends.
