Richard Lucas Obituary

Richard R. Lucas peacefully transitioned from this life temporal to eternal life on October 12, 2020.  Richard R. Lucas was born on November 20, 1948, in Homestead, PA to the late Walter Eugene Lucas and Beulah Leonora Jones Lucas. He was the fourth child born and the last of his siblings consisting of two sisters and one brother who preceded him in death:  Jean Bryant, Ruth Jackson, and Walter Eugene (Junior) Lucas. He was known as “Luke” to those whom he met in this walk of life.

Luke attended the West Mifflin Area School District and graduated from West Mifflin North High in 1966.  He was a member of the North High School football team which won the 1968 WPIAL Championship.  He  also played  Club Recreational baseball for various teams.

Shortly after graduation from high school, Luke enlisted in the  United States Air Force on  August 2, 1966.  He was honorably discharged in 1968.  Upon his return, he was employed by the former United States Steel Homestead Works. He also was a “jack of all trades” being very creative and enjoyed working in various venues which entailed external and internal home improvements.

He had an outgoing personality and made friendships that lasted for many years.  He had a  spirit of doing for others and enjoyed making others feel good!  He also was a sports enthusiast: a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball and Pittsburgh Steelers Football teams; and also enjoyed attending high school and college sports and watching collegiate sports on television.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his children: two sons: Richard Andre “Love” (Dori Jean) Ayers and Cortez Jerome Lucas; one daughter, Chatara  Richelle Lucas Smith; ten grandchildren: Ariana Ayers, Mia Ayers, Cortez Lucas (deceased), Donte’ Lucas, Micah Lucas, Jayden Lucas, Milan Smith, Kyle Smith, Terry Smith, and Amaris Smith;  six great-grandchildren:  Alijah,  Arrian, Denero, Kartel, MiAmore, Milani.   He also leaves to cherish his memory, two devoted nieces and their families: Adria Lynne (Gerald) Sandidge and Yvonne McCalla; two great-nieces, Nicole and Kamryn; two great-nephews, Tony and  Gavin; and an extended circle of other family and friends who were drawn to him by his strength of character, his warmth of heart, his caring for others and his exuberant love of life.
