Maxine Jewel Robinson-Young, 95, of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania was born January 29, 1929, in Troy, Alabama. She was the third of eight children and the eldest daughter born to the late Robert Adams Sr. and Mary Ella Adams. Maxine was thirteen years old when her father relocated her and her six siblings to Blair Heights in Clairton, Pennsylvania.
Maxine graduated from Clairton High School and married at a young age. From that union, she gave birth to her firstborn, James Louis Brody, Jr. (Skipper). In 1951, she and Harry E. Robinson were married in New York, New York, and from their twenty-five-year union Marquita and Jonathan were born. A stay-at-home Mom until her youngest went to junior high school, she completed nursing school to become a licensed practical nurse at Allegheny General Hospital. At the age of fifty-nine, well after her children were grown, her gift of mercy and heart of compassion compelled her to open her home to eight-year-old Suzanne Owes.
Maxine had a beautiful voice, and she began singing solos as a child in Alabama. “Jesus Loves Me” was the first song she sang solo. She loved to sing hymns and as a requested soloist, she sang them at churches in Clairton and throughout the Mon Valley. Maxine was called to a life of prayer and would spend hours at a time in intercession. All-night prayer, 9 a.m., and noonday prayer meetings were commonplace in her home. Her greatest desire was for her family to be saved, and she prayed relentlessly until all her children, siblings, and many extended family members came to Christ. A spiritual mother to many, leading by example, she taught them the power of prayer. Not only was Maxine a prayer warrior, she was a road warrior. She loved to travel and would take to the highway with her citizens band (CB) radio. She was known to the truckers as HolyMax.
Maxine was a member of Trinity Church of God in Christ before becoming a member of Kingdom Come Ministries. There, she was a devout Church Mother and served in the Women of Wisdom (WOW) ministry. As a true Mother in Zion and a Proverbs 31 woman, she was a mentor and role model and her reach was transgenerational.
Maxine was called home to her eternal reward on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at her residence in West Mifflin, PA. She was preceded in death by John Young Sr., her parents, Robert and Mary Adams, son, James Brody Jr., and brothers, Henry, Robert Jr., Rudolph, and Richard Adams.
Maxine leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: daughter, Marquita Batchelor of West Mifflin, PA, son, Jonathan and daughter-in-love, Sharon Robinson of Clairton, PA; six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Odell Adams, Whitehall, PA, Lois Dawkins (Frank) of Tucson, AZ, LaBarbara Jones (Morris) of Manalapan, NJ; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, daughter-in-law, Loretta Brody Osborne; extended family, Tatanise Marshall (Jonathan), and dear friends.
Maxine served the purpose of God in her generation.
