Marlene Hudson-Sanders Obituary

The family and loved ones of Marlene would like to let you know that her work and service here on earth are complete. We all can imagine that Marlene’s transition is certified by the lord with “a job well done good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:23)

Marlene Joann Sanders transitioned from earth on Monday, March 13, 2023, in Jefferson Hills, PA at 87 years of age.

Marlene was a Clairton native and a graduate of Clairton Highschool. She raised her family in Clairton, PA at Mt Olive First Baptist Church. Marlene was a loving, joyful, kind, Christian woman who dedicated her life to the Lord, her family, and her community. Marlene was a natural cook who was employed and retired from Meals on Wheels after 30 years of service. Many still talk about her chicken and potato salad eaten at the Legion. Marlene was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Those who knew Marlene felt the infectious love and extreme kindness that she gave to all she encountered. Marlene was a Christian that dedicated her life to the lord over 65 years ago. Marlene can be described as full of love and full of light. Marlene’s faith and belief in God were evident in the life she led because she “walked the walk.” She was a member of Mt Olive First Baptist Church and served as a member of the Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide, and Senior Usher Board.

Marlene was loved by many in the Mon Valley community, especially Clairton, and leaves a legacy of love, leadership, commitment, and strong family values. Marlene Joann Sanders, 87, was born July 28, 1935, in Dora Alabama. The beloved eldest child to Willie and Catherine (East) Pope. She was preceded in death by sons: Cleophus (Bunchie) Hudson, Derrick (Snake) Hudson, and Myron Hudson, siblings Troy Pope, Willie (Popey) Pope Jr., Patricia (Trish) Pope, Doris Burke, and grandchildren Carlos Hudson and Daniel (Danny) Glover.

Marlene is survived by her loving children Pamela (Pam) Ross Reeder of West Palm Beach, FL, Cheryl (Honey) Hudson of Jefferson Hills, PA, Marlin (Nicole) Hudson of Monroeville, PA, siblings Marjorie (James) Gray of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Nell (Benny)Webb of Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Linda Pope of Dallas, Texas, twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, countless loved ones, and additional relatives and friends.

Although it is natural to mourn the loss of our loved ones. We want all to celebrate the 87 years of life granted to Marlene! We would like our beloved Marlene affectionately known as “Mar, Gram, Grandma Marlene, Aunt Marlene, Mar Girl, and Miss Marlene” to be fondly remembered by her love of the Lord! We all know she was a praying woman and “had Jesus on the mainline.” Her unmatched devotion to her children and grandchildren/ her entire family, her fried chicken, her adventurous spirit, her love for Reverend Callaway, Mt Olive First Baptist Church, and Ms. Eddie Mae, her kind and giving heart, her beauty, and beautiful style(she was always easy on the eyes), her tell it like it is way, her lip singing in the choir because she was too nervous to really sing, and her LIGHT because it lit any space she was in like the sun. Rest peacefully… “Job Well Done Good and Faithful Servant…Job Well Done.” (Matthew 25:23)
