Luemma (Feagin) Rutledge Obituary

Deaconess Luemma Rutledge was born October 23, 1922, in Greenville,
Alabama, the daughter of the late Harrison Feagin and Pearlie Griffin Feagin.
In her teenage years, she relocated to Elizabeth, Pennsylvania residing with
George and Beulah Kendrick. Later she met and married her husband the late
Deacon James “A.D.” Rutledge and from this union two children were born.
They were married for over fifty years.

During World War II, Ms. Luemma gained employment in the United States
Steel Plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania. However, the day the armistice
agreement was signed she was released from her position to make room for the
men to return to their jobs. She was not happy about this and talked about it
for many years.

Ms. Luemma had a quiet, gentle, and loving spirit. She cherished spending
quality time with her family and friends, especially her great-grandchildren.
Every Sunday she would cook her favorite dishes, chicken, kale, and collard
greens, and the entire family would gather around the table to enjoy her delicious
food and delightful company. She lived independently at George Washington
Carver Hall in Clairton, Pennsylvania until she was ninety-five years young.
During her residence, she helped to maintain the Community Food Bank. She
took pride in picking up and distributing food throughout Carver Hall.

On October 01, 1940, when she was only seventeen years young, she united
with Morning Star Baptist Church, under the pastorate of the late Reverend
Joseph McCoy. Deaconess Luemma served the Lord and this church well for
eighty-two faithful years. Being a person who always wanted to help and
support the Church, she became a member of Usher Board #2, Junior Church
Choir, Kitchen Committee, and the Deaconess Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her husband Deacon A.D. Rutledge; son, Roy
Lee Rutledge; brothers, Eddie Paul, Nealy, John, and Governor Feagin; sister,
Lillie Savage Simpson.

Ms. Luemma transitioned over peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 22,
2022, at Riverside Care Center in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She leaves to
carry on her legacy; daughter, Joann (Carlton) Repass, Sr.; sister, Vera Colvin;
brother, Leroy Feagin; one grandson, Carlton Repass, Jr.; four great
grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
