Lily Florene Robinson, 82, of McKeesport, was born April 11, 1942, in McKeesport, PA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Mentral and Agnes Riggs Robinson and a beautiful devoted loving mother to her six children of whom she loved.
Lily attended school at Tech High in McKeesport and graduated in 1961. She grew up on the far end of Locust and Byron Street with her two brothers (Sonny and Charlie), and sister (Ginger). Her family relocated to Harrison Village, where she raised her children as a wonderful single mother doing the best she could. There was nothing more that she loved more than praising God, her children, Calvary church, cooking and crocheting. She could cook something out of anything she had.
Lily worked as a teacher’s aide in McKeesport School District, then went to administrative assistant for the Attorney Curtis Simmons at the Clark Building. Afterwards, she obtained her certified Nurses’ Aid Certificate at CCAC as she went on to work for the Jewish Home for over 15 years before retiring. During her retirement, Lily worked the summer lunch program at Calvary Church for a few years.
Lily joined Calvary United Methodist Church where her family were some of the founding members as well. She loved singing all the time. She started the Canticle Choir in 1976 while being a faithful member as she loved attending choir rehearsal on Mondays. Lily was also a devoted member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Chapter of McKeesport for over 20 years.
Lily also loved to crochet with Mrs. Ernestine and her cousin Gloria, as she and her good friend Ms. Lydia would be drinking coffee on her porch. She loved meeting people and talking to them. She would be walking around singing her favorite church hymns wherever she was, whether in church or cooking for her family. Remember, Lily could cook something out of anything, but she was affectionately known for her famous stuffed cabbage, home fries with Kielbasa onions, peppers, potato salad, pancakes, along with her delicious sweet potato pies. Every year, she would start prepping for Good Neighbor Day, where she worked at the Calvary Church booth selling those stuffed cabbages of hers. They would be the top seller and sell out first. Lily would do anything she could for anyone who she saw or knew in need, especially feeding them like her Aunt Violet. This was her specialty and what people loved about her.
Lily departed this life on December 8, 2024, at Kane Community Living Center in McKeesport, PA. She was preceded in death by her father, Mentral (Mitch) Robinson, mother, Agnes Estelle Riggs Robinson, brothers, Charles (Charlie) Robinson, Mitch (Sonny) Robinson.
