Lillie McLean Obituary

Mother Lillie Belle McLean was born Lillie Belle Jacobs to the proud parents, Evans and Cherri Jacobs in Columbia, South Carolina on September 14, 1928. She is the 4th of eight children, five boys and three girls. Mother McLean came to Clairton, Pennsylvania at the age of 14, where she attended Clairton High School. In 1948, she became the wife of Elder Alexander McLean and joined Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in 1955. She received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at age 27 under Pastor Ithiel Clemmons. She became First Lady of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in 1967 when her husband Elder Alexander McLean, Sr. became Pastor. She worked with numerous church groups and organizations, as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, serving on the Nurse’s boards and working with the Tuesday night youth services. Mother McLean worked for Children and Youth Services for more than 30 years at which time she had taken more than 50 children into her home, many of which she raised to adulthood. She received an honorary award for 25 years of faithful service from Children and Youth Services. She also served as the District President of the Minister’s Wives Association for the Church of God in Christ Western Pennsylvania Jurisdiction.

Mother McLean was married to her husband Pastor Alexander McLean for over 67 wonderful years. She was sincere in all that she did and was surely one inspirational woman of God. She loved everyone and will truly be missed by all the lives she touched. Preceding her in death was her loving husband Pastor Alexander McLean, Sr., and daughter Brenda Graves. Pleasant, WI; Alexander (Annie Marie) of Clairton, Linda (George) Gallaway of Duquesne; Mary Elizabeth Baldwin “Bunny” of Lancaster, CA; Annie Nash-McLean of Clairton; Barbara Hampton of Pittsburgh; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Gladine Jacobs of Charlotte, NC, Hazel McLean of Laurinburg, NC; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
