Levona Hawkins Obituary

Le’Vona Gay Hawkins, 50 years old, was born March 29, 1971, in Albany, NY. She was named after her only paternal Uncle LeVon and she was very proud to carry the name. She was the beloved daughter of Peter Hawkins and Dorothy Huston.

She departed this life on July 3, 2021. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and one and only true love and child’s father, Carvelle “Bobe” Crosby.

Le’Vona is survived in life by her Mother; Dorothy Huston; Father, Peter Hawkins; two daughters, Tammerica Hawkins and Carvelle Crosby; (5) grandchild; Devron Jr, Ma’Jhrielle (MJ), Carvelle (CJ), DeMyan, and Jazz-Lynn all of McKeesport, PA; (4) sisters, Sandra Davis of New Jersey, Geraldine (Darian) Montgomery of Georgia, Christine (Eugene) Berry of Tennessee; one brother, William (Nadine) Hawkins of Duquesne; several godchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles, and her only living aunt, Patricia Hawkins.

“Vonya” as she was affectionately called by family and friends, graduated in 1988, after giving birth to her first daughter.

She worked as a caregiver and a CNA for most of her employment history, however, she also worked many odd jobs related to customer service throughout the years. Le’Vona accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Duquesne.

Vonya truly loved her daughters and grandchildren. She could often be seen with one or all of them with a smile stretching ear to ear. “Aunt Vonya” as most of her kids’ friends called her, was known for her “open door policy” and large meals. Many times, she had her nieces, nephews, god kids, or kids of close family friends staying with her for extended periods of time. She absolutely loved to cook and true to her family name, did not know how to cook for any small crowd. She took pride in her sobriety and affiliation with the Narcotics Anonymous Program, often quoting “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”
