Leon Green, born in McKeesport, PA, on October 18, 1958, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025. He was 66 years old.
Leon was a dedicated and compassionate individual who touched the lives of many through his professional career and personal endeavors. He attended Potomac State College and graduated from Robert Morris University before completing his nursing education at Shadyside School of Nursing, where he served as President of his class, the First African American male in 112 years. Leon devoted over 30 years as a Registered Nurse, earning the love and respect of his patients, who he cared for with unwavering dedication. His passion for helping others led him to Children’s Hospital, where he worked in the transplant unit, bringing hope and healing to countless young lives.
Outside of his career, Leon was a proud mentor and community leader. He founded and coached the AAU basketball team, Pittsburgh Finest, where he guided and inspired young athletes across the Pittsburgh area. Under his leadership, the team achieved notable success, including reaching the Sweet 16 in the 8th Grade National Tournament. His impact extended far beyond the basketball court, shaping the character and futures of those he coached.
Leon’s legacy lives on through his sons, Leon Green, and LaJavious Fagan; his cherished grandchildren, Elijah Fagan, Keyarra Fagan, and Zane Green; and the countless lives he touched with his kindness, mentorship, and dedication.
A memorial service to honor Leon’s life will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Zion Baptist Church 1300 Locust Street, McKeesport, PA 15132. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local youth programs, continuing his mission of supporting and uplifting the next generation.
Leon Green will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his selflessness, compassion, and unwavering commitment to others.
