Kenneth Duane Hamlin Obituary

Kenneth Duane Hamlin Sr. 78 was born on September 27, 1945, the son of the late Willie J. Hamlin and the late Mary Lee Hardin-Long.  He departed this life on February 18, 2024.  Kenneth grew up in Clairton, Pennsylvania, and was affectionately known as ‘Kenny’ to family and friends.

Kenny was a graduate of Clairton High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh.  He worked at U.S. Steel Clairton Works before deciding to become an electrician.  Kenny was well known in Clairton as a master electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #5.

Kenny was a member of Jerusalem Lodge #126 Free and Accepted Masons in Clairton PA, he was a 32nd Degree Mason.  Kenny joined First AME Church in Clairton at a very early age and was a faithful member until God called him home.  He regularly attended church service as well as church school on Sunday mornings at First AME and participated in Sunday school on Saturday mornings at First Church of God in Christ, Pittsburgh Pa. via conference call.  Kenny was admired for his knowledge of scripture and was affectionally called our bible scholar in First AME’s church school.

Kenny met Audrey L. Henry at a dance at the Palisades in McKeesport, Pa. That spark led to a marriage that has spanned close to 60 years.  Audrey has been a devoted and supportive wife and mother throughout life’s challenges and remained steadfast throughout Kenny’s declining health.  Kenny was a captivating storyteller and enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with his family.  He found so much joy in having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren near him.

Kenny was preceded in death by brothers, William and Charles Byrd, Gregory, Danny, and Sidney Hamlin, and sisters, Linda, Derdra, and Diedra Hamlin.
