Kathryn Elvera Thomas, 75, of Clairton, Pennsylvania was born March 7, 1949, in McKeesport, PA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Willie “Bunny” Arnold and Alice Simmons Arnold.
Kathryn, affectionately known as "Kat" was the oldest child of 5 daughters. Clairtonians would say she was from down the “Hill”. The "ozone" to be specific. She was a lifelong member of Mt Olive First Baptist Church in Clairton, PA., her mother and grandparents were active members, and she and her sisters sang in every choir and participated in every Mt Olive activity offered. She was also a member of Complete Man Ministries in Clairton.
She was educated in the Clairton School system and graduated from the Clairton High School Class of 1967. Shortly after graduation, she began to build a family. Professionally she worked in banking at Mellon Bank and the US Government Federal Employees Credit Union, most of her professional experience was with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. “Long before they hired the Emu.”
Kat loved her family, the Clairton Bears and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She
enjoyed traveling to visit her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren wherever they lived. While her sons were serving in the military, she traveled to wherever they were stationed. She was blessed to travel as far north as Alaska to meet her first grandchild and as far south as Georgia and Louisiana to meet and enjoy other additions to her family. Long after she had anyone on a Clairton Bears roster you could catch her and her husband at a youth or high school football game. If the Steelers were playing, she was in front of the TV.
When it came to her family Kat was the glue that kept her family together. She stayed connected with everyone as the family began to literally spread across the globe. If you needed someone’s contact information, she was more than likely the person who had it.
Kathryn peacefully departed this life on February 21, 2025, in Greensburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Herbert Thomas Sr., her maternal grandparents, Benjamin Sr. and Agnes Simmons, and paternal grandparents, Willie and Hattie Arnold, her sister, Davrin “Dee Dee” Jones, and her son Lucky Thomas.
