Joan Beverly Collins Green was born October 16, 1935, in Clairton PA to Thomas and Carrie Collins. She departed this life peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 16th, 2021. Joan graduated from Clairton High School in 1954. She enjoyed spending time in New York City with her oldest sister Myrtle Davis before settling down in the Clairton area.
Joan loved to skate at the Piggy Wiggly. It was there that she met her love, Robert L. Green (Bobby) of Finleyville. They enjoyed 46 years of matrimony and were lifetime residents of Finleyville. Four beautiful children were born to their union, Gregory, Gordon, Beverly and Stephanie. Joan worked for West Penn Power in Washington, PA. for over 20 years. She enjoyed bowling, canning, gardening, and ceramics. Of her favorite hobbies was spending quality time with her sisters. They would shop, eat, laugh and sit on the porch on “Lincoln Way” enjoying each other’s company.
Joan accepted Christ at an early age. She becoming a member of The Gethsemane Church of God and Christ of Clairton PA. After marriage, she became an active member of Finleyville Baptist Church. Joan loved attending church. She was a dedicated choir member and active Deaconess.
Joan was the youngest of 14 children. Notwithstanding the void felt by many, Joan’s passing allowed her to reunite in heaven with her dearly beloved husband Bobby, her precious son and daughter, Gregg and Beverly, and all 13 of her dear siblings, her sisters, Myrtle Davis, Faye Sterling, Ethel Hall, Mattie Ballard, Millicent Adams, Ellen Martin, Thomasene Goodwin, Evelyn Lea; and her brothers, Thomas, Charles, Earl, Wendell and Kenneth Collins.
Joan will be sorely missed and mostly remembered by her precious son Gordon Green of Slippery Rock, PA and adored and dedicated daughter Stephanie Mungin of Pittsburgh PA. To celebrate her life and carry on her legacy, Joan leaves her grandchildren, Nycole Wilkins, Tiffany Green, Stefon Heyward, and Malachi Mungin; her great granddaughter, Taylor Jones; several nieces and nephews, who held her in high esteem as the Collins Family Matriarch. Joan was friend to most but was especially blessed to be showered with the love and care by her dear friend, Kathy Pishko for over five years.
Joan’s tenacity, strength, love of family and reverence for God remains now and forever.
