James A. Thomas was born on February 1, 1951, in Union, South Carolina, the son of the late Jimmy Thomas and Ruth Hazel Thomas. On March 28, 2025, James Thomas passed away.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Thomas and Ruth Hazel Thomas, and his siblings, Donnell Thomas, Rosa Diane Thomas, and Harold Eugene Thomas.
Affectionately known as "Pumpkin" or "Hoffa," James was the patriarch and foundation of his family. He is survived by his love, Benita Clark, and children Andrea Clark (Robert Bledsoe), Lamar Clark (Minnie Thomas), Jamie Thomas, and his godson Maurice Demery. He is also survived by his siblings: Patrice Strowbridge, Nathaniel Strowbridge (Trudy Strowbridge), Ramsey Thomas, Ramon Thomas, and Byron "LA" Wilson.
James leaves behind a loving legacy of 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was deeply loved by many, including family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
A passionate fan of the New England Patriots and especially of Tom Brady. Hoffa loved simple pleasures like sipping strong black coffee with lots of sugar, indulging in chocolates, and watching his favorite soaps or westerns.
His infectious laughter and bright personality lit up every room he entered and, often paired with well-timed curse words, made him unforgettable, just like the smooth songs from his favorite band, Frankie Beverly and Maze.
