We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at McKeesport
Gloria M. Jefferson, 88, of McKeesport, was born August 19, 1933, on Long Island, NY, and departed this life on December 20, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport Hospital in McKeesport, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Jefferson, mother, Edna (Mayo) Evans, Father, William Fletcher Evans, brothers John Evans, Richard Evans, James (Jim) Evans, Archibald (Archie) Evans, and Jud Evans, and Sisters Myra Evans, Rosa (Evans) Waller, and Susanne (Evans) Milteer.
Gloria graduated from high school in 1952 where she lettered in softball and was a member of the school library and volleyball clubs. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at McKeesport Hospital for over twenty-five years. She was honored as an exemplary employee upon her retirement in 1996.
In 1963 while visiting relatives in McKeesport, PA she met her husband of 31 years, John H. (Johnny) Jefferson. From this union, they produced one (1) son, Dayne, and added two (2) precious sons to her life, John Darryl & Derrick. These three boys were the loves of her life, and she gave everything she had to ensure that they were raised right. Gloria and Johnny remained married until his death in 1995.
Gloria was a ray of sunshine to everyone who met her. It was not uncommon for complete strangers who recognized the last name to approach relatives and ask if they knew “Mrs. Jefferson”. They would then proceed to tell their stories of how wonderful and kind she was.
Gloria loved to laugh, to read (especially “her Word”), she was an excellent cook, had amazing artistic ability, and she was an avid walker. People would always remark that they saw Mrs. Jefferson out walking somewhere. She always said walking kept her young and healthy. Gloria also loved to bowl in her younger years and even won a few bucks on Bowling for Dollars TV show. Most importantly she loved life, her family, and friends, and had a deep, unconditional faith and love for the Lord.
Gloria always had a glowing smile on her face, and that’s how she’d like to be remembered… as someone that could brighten up anyone’s day with her smile and kindness.
Gloria is survived by her three (3) sons, John (Darryl) Jefferson, Derrick Jefferson; and Dayne Jefferson, brother, Walter Evans; numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and a plethora of friends.
