Georgia Manns Obituary

Georgia Manns, 89, was born and raised in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She entered this world on September 12, 1931. Georgia Vernice was the first-born of five daughters of the late Vernon and Louise Session Urquhart.  Georgia was a devoted and loving wife to her husband the late Kenneth Manns.  Georgia departed this life on April 3, 2021, at the Kane Regional Center in McKeesport. She was preceded in death by her sisters Edythe Joe (John) and Doris Mikell (Herman).

Georgia attended the McKeesport Area High School and graduated in 1949, she would later go on to attend Fisk University.  Later in her life, Georgia became a member of Pi Beta Psi social club in McKeesport. She enjoyed the social events and acquired lifelong friendships from the members of the club.  Georgia was an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Unemployment Compensation. She would advance to the position of office supervisor and would retire in September of 1991 with over 30 years of employment.  Although retired, Georgia continued to work from home with The Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE). She maintained her position as their treasurer until 2020 when her health prevented her from continuing.

Georgia was a lifelong member of St. Paul A.M.E church. In her adult years, Georgia served as a former Trustee in St. Paul A.M.E church.  Georgia loved and enjoyed being with her family.  She was known for her Christmas dinners with her delicious “rum cake”.  Georgia looked forward to attending the yearly Hamlin-Urquhart family reunions that were held all over the country.  The reunions were the highlight of her summer plans.  She would love meeting new family members and reminiscing with the elder members as well; the reunions always brought her joy.

Georgia loved online shopping and was the QVC queen.  She also loved having fun going to the casino(s) both near and far and was “occasionally” a little lucky.  Georgia also had her two favorite dogs, Sweetie and Tessie that were the loves of her life.

Georgia is survived by her loving sisters, “The Twins”, LaVerne (Bill) Urquhart Pryor of Erie, PA, Yvonne Urquhart of Pittsburgh, PA; her goddaughter, Melanie (Bruce) Jackson; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
