George Gordon Gallaway Sr. was born on November 10, 1936, to the late Hilda and William Gallaway, in Liberty Boro, PA. He took his final rest on Monday, September 18, 2023.
He attended the public school system in what is now South Allegheny School District, served in the Army, and was honorably discharged. While in the U.S. Army, he completed his GED. He worked as a cab driver in N.J. and N.Y. and was a welder for U.S.X. Steel.
George married “his angel” Linda McLean in 1978 and they have been married for 45 years. He worked in the Homestead Steel Mill until 1980 and continued his work as a welder until he was injured at work. A devoted family man, George did whatever he could to support his family, and taught his children to always speak up for themselves. He didn’t like to see anyone unhappy and could always be heard telling people to smile. George was known for his laugh and “life of the party” personality. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and driving.
George was a member of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ and attended for many years until he was physically unable to do so. Praise be to God that in the last months of his life, he rededicated his life to Christ. George was preceded in death by his parents and a host of siblings, nieces, and nephews.
Left to forever cherish his memory are: his loving wife, Linda Gallaway, his 7 children; Katherine Graves, Pauletta Powell, Gregory (Laura) Thorne, Teia (Eddie) Jackson, Sonia (Eric) Ewell, Thera (Shelton) Colbert, and George (Alicia) Gallaway Jr.; his brothers; Gary Gallaway and James (Virginia) Gallaway, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
