Evelyn Joyce Brown, 75, of McKeesport, was born May 27, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the beloved daughter of the late Simon and Mattie (Bray) Swindle. Evelyn departed this life on April 8, 2021, at UPMC McKeesport with her husband of 53 years by her side.
Evelyn met and married Arnold Brown; from this union, one son was born. She was a devoted wife, mother, servant at the church, volunteer and hard worker. Over the years, Evelyn worked at Cox’s Department Store in the accounting office and also as an elevator operator. She worked at Commercial Credit and Mellon Bank. She was also employed as secretary for the McKeesport School District (Francis McClure, White Oak, Twin Rivers Elementary Schools). She was an usher collecting tickets at the McKeesport High School varsity football and basketball games.
A true prayer warrior! Evelyn was a faithful member of Beulah Park United Methodist Church of McKeesport. She served as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She was pivotal in helping the International Village Apple Dumpling Booth every year. She was on the Liturgist Administration Board and various committees to name a few; Pastor Parrish Relations Committee (PPRC) and Witness & Outreach Committees.
Evelyn is survived by her loving spouse of 53 years, Arnold Brown; son, Lance C. (Melissa) Brown of Millcreek Twp, PA; granddaughter, Mela Brown; two grandsons, Jordan Brown, Grayson Brown; three brothers, Atheen Abdul Rabb of McKeesport, Clarence (Minnie) Swindle of Pittsburgh, Haywood Swindle of McKeesport; three sisters, Barbara (Dewayne) Still of McKeesport, Marian Swindle of McKeesport, Lillie Swindle of McKeesport; two brothers-in-law, Curtis Brown of McKeesport, Howard Brown of Pleasant Hills; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
