Duane Allen Ramseur transitioned on Thursday, September 26, at 6:36 pm, at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Born in McKeesport on August 31, 1948, he was the oldest son of the late Herman Ramseur Sr and the late Margaret Kelley Smith. He has joined his siblings, the late Herman Ramseur Jr, the late Cheryl Stewart, and the late Patricia Burgwin.
He was lovingly referred to as Porky because Cheryl thought he looked like Porky the pig as an infant. He ran track in High School and had a short boxing career as a teen. After graduating from Elizabeth High School, Duane enlisted in the Marines, in order to serve in the Vietnam War. During his tenure with the Marines, he received several medals: a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a Marksman Badge.
He was a trained Teletype Operator with Crypto training and Communication Security and earned a Nuclear Biological chemical defense certification. He loved reminiscing about the 5 miles he ran every morning before breakfast.
In 1969, he completed his obligation to the government and met the love of his life, Betty Rowe, they have been married for 53 years.
He worked at Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh until it closed. He then attended Dean Technical Institute where he obtained an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Technology and obtained a position at Liberty Pultrusion, a reinforced fiberglass manufacturing plant, where he worked as a Manufacturing Supervisor.
Duane loved cookouts, he loved traveling, and he became The Exalted Ruler of the Elizabeth Elks 780. During this tenure as Exalted Ruler, he sponsored trips to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
Duane tried retiring but it didn’t last long. He chose to reinter the workforce within a security role at Federated Investors until he retired for the 2nd time. He was also a member of Gethsemane C.O.G.I.C.
Duane continues to live on in the memories of his wife Betty, son Michael, daughter, Shandrea Mitchell (Ronald), grandchildren Khori, Alyssa, and Ramir, In-laws: Regina Ramseur, Brenda Exalien, Linda Wooten (Gary), Vester Rowe (Jackie), Ralph Rowe (Pat), Melony Rowe (Lance), along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
