PITTSBURGH, PA – Donald Lee Woods, 74, died November 29, 2023. The celebration of his life will be held at the Jeron X. Grayson Community Center from 11:00-1:00 pm on December 16, 2023.
Donald Woods was born on September 22, 1949, in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. Having fulfilled all of his worldly obligations, he peacefully departed this life on November 29, 2023.
You knew when Donald Woods entered the room. Whether it was his jovial spirit or his unorthodox sense of style, he was easy to be around and a joy to laugh with. A true gentleman, faithful husband, and devoted father who had an irrational self-confidence and was unmoved by the opinions of others. Donald had a notable work ethic but ultimately prioritized his family over professional accolades.
Donald met the love of his life, Suzanne Woods, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the two marked their 45th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2023. They were a team: Suzanne and Donald raised three sons in Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Larimer neighborhood and were devout members of Mt. Ararat Baptist church. Donald taught his sons the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, establishing both short- and long-term goals, and taking pride in the family name. He believed there was power in words and insisted that “The Woods Group” draft a mission statement to codify their obligations to one another.
He was one of a kind and will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers: Teach someone how to tie a bowtie.
Donald is survived by his sons, Drs. Barrett (Shailen) Woods, Royce (Stephanie) Woods, and Lance (Camille) Woods; daughter Shenetria Moore, his grandchildren, Barrett Woods II, Winston Woods, Noah Woods, and Roman Woods; his mother Geraldine Ivory; brothers, Chris Ivory and Charles Woods; and numerous loved ones. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Suzanne Woods, father Sidney Ivory and Donald Woods Sr., and brother Alton Woods.
