Denise M. Jackson Obituary

A TIME TO BE BORN: Denise Marlene Jackson was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 11, 1963, to the late Albert and Mae Frances Jackson. She was the third of four children. It was on Bedford Avenue in the Hill District where her young life began, and she was affectionately given the nickname “Wee-Wee”. Soon after her birth, the family moved into the Burrows Street Housing Complex. In 1972, the Jacksons relocated to the newly built Enright Court in the Pittsburgh East Liberty neighborhood. It was there that Denise built lifelong friendships.

A TIME TO LEARN: Denise was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. She attended Lincoln Elementary, Reizenstein Middle, and graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1981. A few years later, she found interest in Criminology and continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh.

A TIME TO GROW: At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Howard S. Cuff. There, she received a biblical foundation through Sunday school teachings and also participated in many ministries, including the youth choir.

A TIME TO WORK: Denise was employed for more than two decades with the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Domestic Management.

A TIME TO LOVE: She was a loving mother to her “six black kids.” And simply adored the blessing of having six amazing grandchildren who were the apple of her eye. Denise shared her love with many throughout her life, especially those from the McKeesport area that eventually became her home.  Although her own family kept her busy, she was always available to listen and encourage those who confided in her. She was greatly respected in the community. Her quick wit and clapbacks will forever be remembered. She was one who kept it REAL and gave it to you “straight, no chaser”!

A TIME TO ENJOY: Denise enjoyed phone calls and texting with those who held a special place in her heart. As well as the comfort of family meals, where everyone had a seat at her table. One of her favorite things to do was attending Taco Tuesday at the Roo Bar with her “youngins.”

A TIME TO REST: Suddenly, on May 2, 2025, the Lord called Denise home. Where she will be reunited with her parents and other loved ones who preceded her in death.

A TIME TO REMEMBER: Denise is survived by her children, Rodney Howard Jr., Dwayne Howard, DeAndre Jackson, Rodneka Howard, Danekqua Jackson and Dayona Bray. Her grandchildren,  Ka’Naiya Jennings, Rodayia Howard, Rodney Howard, Jania Howard, Ravelle Thomas Jr, and Dwayne Howard. Her siblings Albert Jackson, Joyce (Larry) Washington, and Calvin Jackson, all of Pittsburgh, PA. Her niece, nephews, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
