Christopher C. Kerney Sr., was born April 08, 1955, in Pittsburgh, PA. The beloved son of the late William and Louise(Martin) Kerney, departed this life on April 13, 2021, at the VA Medical Center in Oakland, PA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Kerney, and two brothers Edward Wylie Kerney and Michael Boatright. As well as long-time friend Paula Kelley.
He attended Clairton High School and according to his sister he was well known with his teachers. His reputation followed the Kerney name so well that a teacher once told his niece to go and sit in the corner where her uncle used to sleep. He was a character and could be mischievous at times. He was known for always having a grin on his face when being reprimanded for his wrongdoings. He received his GED and went off into the United States Navy. After the navy, he worked in carpentry for over 30 years.
Chris had a very kind heart and would do anything he could to help you. He was a protector of his family, especially his kids and grandchildren. Family was very important to him which is why he loved doing family things from playing board games, spending quality time with his grandkids, or just laying around watching movies with family. He would always talk about how he put a whooping on anyone he played the card game Phase 10 with. One of is all-time favorite things to do was to travel to Clairton Bear football games with his son, nephew and others. Those memories will be cherished forever! He was also a die hard Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan.
He wore his title of father, brother, uncle and friend well because he was there for everyone! It didn’t matter what needed to be done, if you called on him he was there. He helped everyone move because in his eyes he was the best mover ever! To be honest he thought he was one of the best in a lot of things from grilling, playing chess, or pool. He just had the sweetest heart! His granddaughter said he was funny and she will miss how loud he could be at times.
Christopher is survived by his loving two daughters, Keonna Whetsell of Elizabeth Township, PA, Kristina Thompson of McKeesport, PA; two sons, Christopher (Crystal) Kerney Jr. of Clairton, PA, and Brayland Thompson of Verona, PA; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; five brothers, William S.(Georgetta) Kerney Jr, Martin L.(Shirley) Kerney Sr., David Stone, Anthony and Steven Boatright; 3 sisters, Nicie (Fred) Walker-Billings, Myrtle Walker and Louise Boatright; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
