Cheryl Dianne ("Sherry" Ramseur) Stewart Obituary

Cheryl Dianne Stewart,75, who was called by the name “Sherry” of Washington, was born February 1, 1947, in Elizabeth, PA. She was the beloved daughter to the late Herman Ramseur and Margaret (Kelly) Ramseur Smith.

Her early years were spent in Elizabeth, PA before moving to Washington, D.C. After graduating from Elizabeth Forward High School.

Cheryl lived with her aunt Addie Lowery and uncle Larry Lowery, in southeast Washington DC. Later she struck out on her own and acquired a beautiful apartment in Northwest DC, while living there, she attended church at Saint Stephens and the Incarnation Episcopal Church. There she met an apprentice bricklayer named Allen Stewart, from Orange, VA. After dating for a short period, they were married by Father Wendt of Saint Stephens Church on July 8, 1972, and began a life of devotion together.

Cheryl worked for the DC Government in the Housing Department for several years and then transferred to the Federal Government, Department of Interior as an Administrative Assistant where she retired from.

Sherry loved to read; she would read a 400-page book within a week. Her favorite books were Henry the VIII of England, and his wives and children. She loved riding with her husband Allen around the city of Washington, DC looking at the different areas of the city and its changes. Later, after retirement, she enjoyed going to the Senior Wellness Center in our community to meet with friends and discuss daily events. Sherry absolutely loved spending time with her mother, aunt, and family whenever we came home to visit Elizabeth, PA.

Cheryl departed this life on August 30, 2022, in Inova Alexandria Hospital, with her husband at her side, Cheryl transitioned home to be with God.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Burgwin, father, Herman G. Ramseur, Sr., mother, Margaret (Kelley) Ramseur Smith

She leaves to treasure her memories, her devoted husband, Allen Stewart of 50 years, two brothers, Herman (Regina) Ramseur, of Elizabeth, PA, Duane (Betty) Ramseur of Clairton, PA; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
