Betty Jean Davis Dickson, 88, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Thursday, May 27, 2021. She was born June 8, 1932, in Clairton, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late Beulah M. Dudley and the late Berry Davis. She is also preceded in death by her husband, I. D. Dickson and grandson Parrish B. Middlebrook. Betty was a life-long resident of Clairton, a graduate of Clairton High School and a long-standing member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she served faithfully on many organizations, including its Usher Board No. 2, Women’s Chorus, Revival, Calendar, Pastor’s Anniversary, Ways and Means and Christian Education committees.
Betty was a nurse’s assistant for Staff Builders and a former underwriter for North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. She was also affiliated with the Hollywood Club Ladies Auxiliary, Clairton Recreation Advisory Board. American Legion Auxiliary # 815, Clairton Concerned Citizens, Clairton Coalition and Guys and Dolls Bowling League and formerly served as president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Clairton Branch. She was also Past Worthy Counsellor of the Pride of Clairton Court #183 and past Grand Treasurer of Calantheans.
Betty’s motto was “If I can help somebody while living, then my living shall not be in vain.”
Surviving is her son, Melvin (Charlene) Davis, Knoxville, TN; grandson, Terrance L. (Tierra) Davis, Lithonia, GA; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; godchildren; sister, Mary Gilliam, Highland Park, MI; brother, Reverend Dwight (Lois) Dudley, Elizabeth Township, PA; aunt, Novella Woods, Harrisburg, PA; caregiver, Hilda Brantley, Clairton, PA; brothers-in-law, Joseph C. Dickson, Lakeview, CA, Judge Allan “Paul” Dickson, Sansibel, FL; host of nieces, nephews; cousins, other relatives and many friends.
