Barbara Jean Hurt, 90, of Clairton, was born March 1, 1933, in Clairton, PA. She was the beloved daughter of Benjamin and Catherine Briggs Allen.
Barbara had three brothers and was the only girl in the family. Barbara attended Clairton High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Sanford L. Hurt of Clairton, and they were blessed with five children of their own, Cornell, Isola, Kevin, Guy, and Deron. Barbara was a devoted homemaker but worked periodically to make ends meet. She most often worked at hotels and restaurants being that she was an excellent cook. Later she worked for many years at Jefferson Hospital, and then she retired. Barbara was famous for her cakes and loved preparing meals for the Holidays. She was devoted to her family and her God. She was a member of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ. She regularly attended Gethsemane until some health issues began to hinder her, but she remained committed to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She became a caretaker to her beloved daughter Isola due to a tragic accident. She gladly took on that challenge never regretting one moment of it. That was just the kind of person she was.
Barbara departed this life on September 27, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by her family in Clairton, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford Hurt, a child at childbirth; son, Guy Hurt Sr., mother, Catherine Briggs Allen, father, Benjamin Allen, brother Warren Allen Sr., grandsons; Brandon Hurt, Maurice Hurt, and Tauvea Hurt.
Barbara is survived by her beloved children; Cornell Hurt, Isola Hurt, Kevin (Cheryl) Hurt, and Deron (Tiffany) Hurt; 10 grandchildren; 15, great-grandchildren; 20, great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
