Barbara Jean Bick

Today we honor the memory of Barbara Jean Bick-Metz, 78 of West Mifflin. She was the third born child of the late Bernard and Virginia (Undra) Bick on November 6,1946 in Toledo, OH. 
Barbara, also affectionately known by loved ones as "Barbara Jean," "Ma Barb," and "Barbie," graduated from Ohio University with her Bachelor's in Biology and Science. After graduating, she moved to Clairton, where she worked for the Allegheny County Health Department. She also worked as a battery operator at Clairton Irvin Works and as a server/bartender at the Hollywood Club and Fran's Bar. 

After putting herself through Nursing School, Barbara became a Registered Nurse at Jefferson Hospital, where she had a long and rewarding career until she retired in 2009. After retirement, her nurturing character and passion to help others led her to become a part-time nurse at Clairton Middle School. 

Barbara departed this life on May 19, 2025, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, father, Bernard Bick, mother, Virginia (Undra) Bick, and husband, Matthew Metz. 

Barbara is survived by her beloved daughter, Nichelle Metz of West Mifflin, PA., 4 grandchildren Raven, Erin, Zoe and Bree, 1 great- grandchild, Rien, God Daughter Nicole Thompson, two brothers, Michael (Karen) Bick, Bernard Bick; sister, Bonnie (James) Dabrowski; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
