Arthur C. (Lil Arthur) Long Sr. 87 of Jefferson Hills was born September 14, 1935 in Elmore County Alabama. He was the beloved son of George Long and Annie Mae Casby.
Lil Arthur grew up in Clairton where he attended school at Clairton City Schools through Graduation. After high school, Lil Arthur joined the United States Army in 1952 and was a medic during the Korean War. Following the Korean War, he was stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany for three years. He was then honorably discharged in 1959 and came home to Clairton where he worked several jobs including: medical orderly, an insurance salesman, a shoe salesman and in the United States Steel Works in Clairton (Battery Unit). In 1965, Lil Arthur found his niche while working for the Clairton Police Department and worked ten years before being promoted to Senior Detective. He then decided to pursue a different career path and in 1975, he started working for the Port Authority Transit (PAT). Lil Arthur enjoyed a great career with PAT as he was able to meet new people and move passengers throughout Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas in a safe and timely manner. He retired from Port Authority in 2000 and has spent his retired years traveling the states visiting numerous family members and friends.
Lil Arthur was a dedicated family man. While on leave in January 1955 from the Korean War, he married the Love of His Life, Willie Mae Jones, and started their family shortly after.
In all they had seven children: Arthur Jr, Kelvin, Theresa, Thomas, Mary Lee, George, and Armand and shared 68 wonderful years together. Lil Arthur and Willie Mae joined Morning Star Baptist Church of Clairton in the early 60’s and raised their children there. Lil Arthur liked to spend his time away from work by enjoying his family, taking family trips, and visiting extended family around the country. Lil Arthur was an avid sports fan following the Pittsburgh Steelers faithfully every Sunday. He also followed several other local football teams. Lil Arthur was Past Master of Jerusalem Lodge #126 F & AM, P.H.A. He was also the Past W.D.L of the Eleventh Masonic District.
Lil Arthur was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents George Long and Annie Mae Casby, brothers Charlie Boy Bradley, Donald (Bobo) Baker, sisters Georgia Mae Whitley, Willie Mae Wyatt, Jeanette Meacham, son Arthur C. Long Jr. and grandson Thomas E. Long Jr.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife Willie Mae Long, children Kelvin Long of Cleveland, OH, Theresa Long of Jefferson Hills, Thomas (Nicole) Long of Clairton, Mary Long of Cincinnati, OH, George (Carmella) of Houston, TX and Armand Long Sr. of Atlanta, GA. and Aunt Kisiah Borders of Cincinnati, OH. He leaves 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
