Samuel Gregory Phelps III

Samuel Gregory Phelps III was born April 2, 1949, in McKeesport, PA. He was the beloved son of the late Samuel and Mary (Herriott) Phelps II.

He was a graduate of McKeesport Senior High School. After graduation, he worked as a Foreman for B & O Railroad for many years. On September 23, 1967, Greg married Gloria Barber, and to this union, they had four beautiful children: Vera, Samuel IV, Derrick, and Brandi.

Greg or “Phelps” as he was often called was a lover of music, and on any given day you would find him either listening to or recording his favorite songs. His music collection over the years includes an array of musical artists across many genres. Greg was an avid weightlifter, and although he was not competitive, he was conscious of taking care of his physique. If you needed a lucky number Phelps was your go-to guy. His mathematical and analytical skills were amazing, and he was quick to offer anyone a three-digit tip, and just as quick to offer a helping hand when needed.

Greg departed this life on March 8, 2022, at home. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Gregory and Mary (Herriott) Phelps II.  

Greg is survived by, his loving spouse of 55 years Gloria; two daughters, Vera Phelps of McKeesport, PA, Brandi Phelps of Glassport, PA; son & daughter-in-law, Samuel (Tasha) Phelps IV of McKeesport, PA; son, Derrick Phelps of White Oak, PA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Helene Phelps of McKeesport, PA; three brothers, Harold Phelps of McKeesport, PA, Leroy Phelps, and sister-in-law, (Senitha) of Norfolk, VA; Brother Wayne Phelps of McKeesport, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
