Mary Daviston Obituary

Mary W. Daviston, 96, of McKeesport, was born September 3, 1926, in Duquesne, PA. She was the beloved daughter of the late InoLee and Elizabeth (Daggett) Ruffin.

She was the 3rd oldest child of 5 siblings. Mary attended Duquesne High School. She worked at an early age in the laundry at McKeesport Hospital. Mary married Roy Daviston Sr. on November 12, 1948. To which were born four sons. They were the owners of two dry-cleaning businesses and were entrepreneurs in the entertainment business.

Mary was a caregiver to her late father-in-law for a long while until his death. Mary came to faith in Christ and became a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Duquesne, PA in which she was a member for over 50 years. Mary served as an usher for many years and sang in the choir. She volunteered at Agape Manor Personal Care Home where she was loved by the residents. Mary would do Bible Trivia and reward them by giving the correct answer with a treat.

She also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and with keeping up with family and friends. Mary was loved by the staff and residents at Riverside Care Center. Her smile was infectious. No matter who came to her room they would leave with a smile.

Mary departed this life on February 19, 2023, at Riverside Care Center in McKeesport PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Daviston, Sr., son, Donnie Daviston, sister, Vernice Ruffin, brothers; Robert Ruffin, and James Ruffin, father, InoLee (Ivy) Ruffin, mother, Elizabeth Daggett Ruffin.  

Mary is survived by her loving sister; Helen Kirkland, her loving children; daughter, Marva (Louis) Wilson of McKeesport, PA; three sons, Terrell Daviston, Leroy Daviston, Roy Daviston, Jr., 9 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandchild, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
