Leavy Gadsden, Jr Obituary

Leavy Gadsden, Jr., 77, was born April 17, 1944 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He was the beloved son of the late Leavy and Ella Gadsden, Sr. Leavy was affectionately known as Big Boy. He departed this life on  August 10, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death his grandson, De'Jour Gadsden, sisters, Elise Blake, Carletta and Linda Gadsden, brothers, Carl Gadsden, Sr., Harry and Duane Gadsden.

Leavy graduated from McKeesport Senior High School, class of 1962. Shortly after, he served in the United States Army from 1963-1966. He was no stranger to hard work. He was employed by US Steel as a Laborer for many years. He even drove the school bus for the McKeesport Area School District.

Leavy loved to celebrate and spend time with family and friends. During those celebrations, playing spades was a must. Needless to say, if he lost, he was not happy and had to play again. He was the most unselfish person anyone could meet.  He made sure his children never wanted for anything, he also would do anything for anyone. In his younger years, Leavy was often seen walking his Great Danes; he loved dogs. He loved to garden and have his yard looking like perfection.  He took pride in making sure his yard was kept and decorated with flowers. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan; never missed watching a game. When he was just in the hospital, he made sure to tell us he needed to get home to watch the pre-season Steelers game.

Leavy is survived by his loving spouse of 43 years Ida; two daughters, Shawnese (Devlin) Clifford of Monroeville, PA, Nicole  Gadsden of White Oak; three sons, Brivett James of McKeesport, Leavy Gadsden, III of McKeesport, Deon  Dukes of Duquesne; grandchildren, Jakari, Sr., Johnny, Kiara, Myat, Ja’Mera, and Micah; great-grandchildren, Jakari, Jr., and Jakai; two sisters, Marie Austin of Brooklyn, NY, Leola Elder of Brooklyn, NY; brother, Larry Gadsden of Houston, TX; special niece, Mahogany Preston; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
