LeLa M (Simmons) Powell

LeLa M Simmons Powell, 84 of McKeesport, Pennsylvania formerly of Duquesne, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday, September 30, 2019, at home.

LeLa was born June 23, 1935, in Tuscaloosa, AL, daughter of the late Luther Simmons and Nicey Charles Simmons.  She was also preceded in death by her late husband John Alfred Powell

Ms. Powell worked as a CNA  for Riverside Nursing Home for many years.  After moving to North Carolina she was a faithful member of Piney Grove AME Church in Evergreen NC, where she played an active role on the deacon board, usher board, and sang in the choir.  After relocating back to Duquesne, Pennsylvania she reunited with the Payne Chapel AME Church.

Leaving to cherish her memories are; daughters Tonya Lee Jackson of Detroit, Donella V. (Robert) Freeman of McKeesport; six grandchildren,  nineteen Great Grandchildren.
siblings, Lewis (Daisy) Simmons of Duquesne, John Simmons, Mattie Simmons, and Mary Simmons all of Unidella Georgia, Dolly Bennett of Maryland, and Nellie Fennell of Pittsburgh, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Friends will be received in the Payne Chapel AME Church 601 Priscilla Ave, Duquesne, PA 15110 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, October 3, 2019. Where services will be held Friday at 11:00am.
Interment will follow in the McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.
