Rose Marie Burney

Rose Marie Burney, 74, of Monongahela, Pennsylvania peacefully departed this life at home with her family by her side on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

 Rose Marie was born on February 25, 1944 to the late Elizabeth O'Neal and Marshall Swanson.  She was raised by her late grandmother Rosa O'Neal of Donora, Pennsylvania.  Rose Marie was a graduate of Donora High School in 1962 and was active in the Glee club.  While in high school, Rose met and eventually married Henry Burney Jr.  Together they had three children, Henry Burney III, Todd Burney and Tiffani Burney Jones.  Rose Marie worked as a seamstress for Donora Sportswear for many years.  She then worked for Hills Department Store and was currently an employee at Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services as a child care provider.  Rose Marie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Donora Pennsylvania.  She was involved with the Deaconess board, choir, Kings Daughters, church clerk, bulletin editor and pulpit committee.  

 She was devoted to her husband and children.  She enjoyed making greeting cards and would make 75-100 cards each holiday to send out to her friends and family.  Rose loved the Lord and praised him every day even as she was challenged by her long battle with cancer.

 Left to cherish her many memories are her husband Henry Burney of Monongahela; children, Henry Burney of Monongahela, Todd Burney of Monessen and Tiffani Jones of Aldie, VA; grandchildren, Jordan Burney, Taryn Burney, Briana Burney and Brielle Jones; siblings Frances Fant of Houston, Texas, Adrinnia (Charles) Washington of Charlotte, North Carolina, Wilhelmina Sumpter of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Clifton (Devon) Sumpter of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Beverly James (Vernell) Sumpter of Atlanta, Georgia, Milton Sumpter of Clairton, Pennsylvania, goddaughter N'dya Vann, nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and many loving friends.

Rose Marie is preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, cousins, Vern Alvin Ramey, Mildred Ramey, aunt, Beatrice Lightfoot and best friend, Jacqueline Nichols.  

Rose Marie was a loving and giving person and will truly be missed by all.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, 541 Allen Avenue, Donora, Pennsylvania 15033, where services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Alonzo Burney officiating.
